Website

Kaja Irwin is a dancer, choreographer, and dance educator. As an independent artist she has had the pleasure of working with respected choreographers and collectives in Calgary, Toronto and Winnipeg.

Through movement, Irwin aims to transport viewers to another part of themselves, engaging them mentally and physically, prompting them to question their relationships to themselves, each other and their surroundings. Irwin is interested in the art of physicality, non-traditional performance spaces, costuming, and feels a strong connection to music, all of which drive her to choreograph and perform.

Irwin has recently collaborated with jewellery artist Corey Moranis with video work due to release in May 2020. Her most recent solo piece ‘HOWL’, second in the ‘VROOM’ series originally created for Fluid Festival’s Physical Theatre Cabaret, was premiered at ‘to the AWE’ in March 2019. Irwin has choreographed for the Annual Alberta Dance Festival in both September 2017 and 2018. In 2015 she was a juried choreographer at 60×60 in Toronto, ON and in 2014 her solo performance ‘MAIM’ was exhibited in Ottawa, CA and Amsterdam, NL.

Irwin is passionate about jazz and is a company dancer with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and looks forward to continue her research and discovery of movement and expression.
