Hebert Poll Gutiérrez

Hebert Poll Gutiérrez is a Cuban-Canadian poet, author, playwright, storyteller, and multidisciplinary creator based in Calgary. With more than 21 years of artistic experience, his work spans theatre, literature, film, spoken word, and hybrid performance formats that blend live acting, digital media, and puppetry. His multidisciplinary puppet shows—where cinema, objects, masks, and storytelling intersect—have been presented in Canada, the United States, Cuba, Europe, and Latin America, offering audiences an innovative fusion of narrative and visual poetry.
Hebert is the author of nine books, and his plays have been produced by companies across several countries. His recent works include Last Planet Standing and Whispers from the Black Gods. He is a member of SpanicArts, the Playwrights Guild of Canada, Assitej Cuba–Canada, and Storytellers of Canada.
Celebrated for his commitment to Afro-Cuban identity and social justice, Hebert was named Calgary’s Artist of the Month in December 2021. His performances, workshops, and community projects continue to build bridges between cultures, generations, and artistic disciplines.
